Packaging Guide – Recommendations

In this guide, we provide all the necessary guidelines for proper packaging. It is essential that you follow all the instructions, as any item shipped without complying with the specifications outlined in this guide will be excluded from any type of compensation.

Proper packaging preparation is crucial to ensure adequate protection during transportation and distribution. Therefore, your shipment’s packaging must protect the goods against shocks, drops, and vibrations. It must also act as a cushion to ensure the integrity of the entire contents.

It is very important to follow these guidelines:

  1. Use a sturdy double-walled corrugated cardboard box that suits the weight and dimensions of the item and can be safely stacked during transport.
  2. Wrap items individually with cushioning material appropriate for the weight, size, and type of goods being shipped. Be sure to protect the corners and edges carefully.
  3. Place the items inside the box, ensuring they are separated from each other and at least 5 cm away from the walls. Use enough filler material to prevent movement during transport and thus reduce the risk of damage.
  4. Close and seal the cardboard box with packing tape.

1. Outer Packaging

Choose a new cardboard box. Make sure the double-walled corrugated cardboard is strong, durable, and resistant.

Select the box size based on the size and weight of the merchandise.

Handling instructions (fragile, this side up, do not fold, do not stack, etc.) do not guarantee any special handling. Keep in mind that packages are handled by automatic machines and must withstand a free fall of at least 80 cm.

2. Inner Packaging

Protect the merchandise from shocks, drops, and vibrations. Internal protective materials fall into the following categories:

  • CUSHIONING: absorbs and disperses impact energy to protect products from shocks and vibrations.
  • FILLER: fills empty spaces inside the box to prevent products from moving and colliding with each other, helping to avoid damage from friction or bumps.
  • SEPARATOR: keeps products apart, avoiding direct contact that could cause damage.

Important: Packaging using improvised materials for cushioning—such as corrugated cardboard, newspaper, clothes, blankets, quilts, or similar—will be considered inadequate and non-compliant. In the event of damage, no claims will be accepted.

Cardboard, paper, plastic, and padded envelopes do not offer cushioning properties.

3. Sealing the Package

  • Use strong, high-quality packing tape at least 50 mm wide.
  • Apply tape in an “H” pattern. Place tape in the shape of the letter "H" over all openings of the outer package, both top and bottom, ensuring a proper and reinforced seal.
  • Use impact-resistant expanded polyethylene profiles to protect the edges and corners of the package. These profiles will distribute pressure evenly, preventing potential damage.

4. Labeling and Documentation

  • Shipping label: We recommend using adhesive labels and placing them visibly on one outer side of the package.
  • Customs documentation: We recommend using an adhesive plastic pouch with self-seal to include the envelope with the shipment documents. Attach this pouch visibly on one outer side of the package.
  • For all shipments to countries outside the European Union (EU), it is mandatory to include the customs invoice.

5. Type of Goods

The packaging must always be appropriate for the type of goods. As stated in the shipping terms and conditions (sections 5, 6, and 9.1), the transportation agencies performing the collection service are not obliged to provide packaging or wrapping to the user.

Any doubts or questions regarding proper packaging or restrictions and requirements for the type of goods the user wishes to ship will be personally addressed via WhatsApp Business (WB) or customer support at bmgglobalpost.com.
